# What we do

> Three tasks: keep an open standard, check entries, build our own infrastructure.


From what stands under [Why we exist](../index.html) follow three tasks.

## Keep an open standard

The manifest standard describes a data source so a machine can use it: interfaces, authentication, licence, publisher. It is public, versioned and formally checkable. Its wording is in the documentation under [Reference, manifest standard](../../docs/reference/manifest-standard/index.html).

## Check entries, not claim them

Every entry is checked against its own declarations, and the state of that check is part of the register — «never checked» is not «checked, passed», and both are stated.

## Build our own infrastructure

So the standard does not stay theory, we build our own access to public federal sources and show it with its state — including where something is still missing.
